![]() I don’t intend to answer the first two questions here, but for the last the short answer is No. Gillingham engages vigorously in the many debated aspects of Richard’s reign-among them, a few I’ve blithely assumed in that opening sentence: In what sense was this French-speaking heir of the Angevin throne English? Was he great? And was he homosexual? ![]() ![]() During the spring semester I picked up a used copy of John Gillingham’s Richard the Lionheart, the first of his two biographies of the great English king. ![]()
